Melbourne stands with Palestine: No to Israel's war crimes in Gaza - 19 July 2014

Dear friends,
on July 19, Melbourne held its second demonstration in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine against Israel's war crimes, with an estimated 4000 to 5000 people taking to the streets. Early on Friday morning (Australian time) Israel began its ground assault on Gaza. According to Palestinian officials, the death toll in Gaza now exceeds   with at least 36 people dying on the second day of Israel's ground invasion as a result of  Israel's relentless shelling of the Gaza Strip.

Please find below a selection of photos from today's solidarity rally in Melbourne. The rally was kicked off by Aboriginal community activist, Viv Malo who drew the links and similarities between the Aboriginal and Palestinian struggles. Viv was joined in the rally by other Aboriginal community members, including Aboriginal elder Robbie Thorpe.

Melbourne will hold a third rally for Gaza next Saturday at 1pm (26 July) at the State Library.
